Lairak ever since his arrival at the wyer spent most of his days and some of his nights in the infirmary trying his hardest to impress on the head healer that he was good enough and not some drifter who didn't know anything. After all he survived making it here and if not for his skill in the craft he would have not made it let alone with several others. This he did not alone but not entirely with help either. There was much he had to learn still so when he wasn't cleaning or learning in the infirmary he was studying in his room trying his hardest to impress his new home and the people in it.
Sighing more to himself than anyone else he reached under a cot in the infirmary to try and clean out whatever it was that was down there. Mind you he did take the precautions necessary to clean like he was and to pick up around the place. It seemed almost ghost like to him considering the hour of the day and most of the activity being up towards the door and he in the back. This was something that typically he wouldn't do but he was at the bottom of the ladder here so he did his best not to rock anything too hard. That was till he was told that he needed to go into his berics for rest as the supplies were low and it was best he conserve himself so he could be one of the many sent to gather more when time and necessity demanded it.
Nodding he slowly rose from his knees to his feet, smiled and then turned and left the infirmary it was now his down time. Thankfully he had proven himself useful before that time came and now he made his way to the lower caverns to the kitchen for food. This wasn't like him to do this but necessity out weighted his shy nature, so he grudgingly joined the others in the hall that were already gathered there eating. He got his food and the found an empty table. Being new he didn't want to disturb conversations already in progress and didn't want to upset anyone. This was his way and always why he was listened to when he spoke back home.
Picking up the food on his tray he began to eat looking around the hall to see who all was there and perhaps see if he could, later, join a table in conversation if invited to do so. Everyone here seemed very much to be friendly folks, despite the hardships, and he hoped to fit right in but one never knew about these things.

Aethyr sighed for the uptienth time that morning. While he'd actually gotten around to sleeping, it didn't seem enough for his tired body. Hopefully keeping regualr sleeping hours the next few days would straighten everything out. Right now the healer was focused on getting his mug of klah and some food for Ilex.
The little brown flitt, sensing his thoguhts, perked up on his shoulder and crooned. His eyes whirling red.
"Alright, hang on let me get you some food." Aethyr went and got food for himself and some raw meat for Ilex.
The tan flit seemed content enough to wait until his master sat down before eating, but he was keeping an eye out for any theives.
Aethyr stood a few moments contemplaiting where he was going to sit. Most were filled with people he vaugely knew from somewhere, but didn't know enough to have a conversation. Spotting a mostly empty table, the healer made his way over.
"Do you mind if I sit here?" He placed his tray down and sat.
Ilex was off his shoulder and sitting by the bowl of meat with his mouth open in a flash.
"Can't you wait a moment?"
The brown shook his head.
Aethyr glanced up in apology, "Sorry, he gets a bit impatient about food. I'm Aethyr, journeyman healer."

Lairak smiled and nodded looking up from his food to let the man know that it was quite alright to sit down at the table. Aethyr did so with a little brown flitt that seamed fixed on getting the food that he was carrying for him. There was a verbal apology made on behalf of the little creature that was when Lairak laughed lightly before responding verbally, "It is quite alright I understand they can be quite fixated on thing when they think they need to be."
With that the man seemed to be paying attention to the little guy that's when he heard his name spoken out loud and what he did there. He light up a little as it seemed they had common ground so to speak even though they've not cross paths before. He introduced himself in hopes that this would be a start to getting to know the man. "My name is Lairak and I too am a journeymen healer. However, I'm still proving my worth here as I have just arrived from the north. You can say I am still new here and have to prove why I survived while so many didn't."
His attention now on the man across from him at the table and his little friend he placed his spoon down on the table and intently watched for his reaction. Not many opportunities had presented themselves to him for him to really get to know anyone in the weyr and since this was the first his hopes soared as to what could possibly happen.

"Yes he can be quite focused." Aethyr smiled as Ilex ate. "It's nice to meet you Lairak. The infirmary could use another able body."
The man across the table seemed shy but intent on getting to know him and Aethyr grinned.
"It's a good thing you did survive, so many have died here already." The healers smile changed into a frown. Ilex rubbed his head against Aethyr's hand and crooned encouragingly.
"Anyway, once again I'm glad to meet you and glad you're here. How do you like the Weyr so far? Are you a Candidate too? I think I may have seen you in the Candidate barracks."

He chuckled more to himself then anything about the comment that the infirmary could use another body as it seemed there was a shortage of healing supplies everywhere in the weyr. He waited for the other man to quit speaking before answering his questions in rather vivid details as he was very thoughtful about how he expressed himself. Now that he had survived such a long journey and wished to once more have at least one confidant in the weyr like he had in his old home.
First he nodded his head about the question about being a candidate before speaking, "Yes, those are my intentions. The dragons seem to me to be very capable of assisting a healer in his tasks and I would enjoy the companionship of one considering I am the only one left of my family. I don't have a bond mate as of yet and, well, the quarters I have get lonely at night sometimes." He rubbed his hand along the back of his neck thinking a bit, "That and I've gone over and over in my mind about it and have decided it be best for me right now to seek such a thing. Even though I know it can take several hatching to find the perfect one if not chosen first."
He paused looking at the man's little creature for a bit how it seemed to comfort him for some reason or another he wasn't quite sure what to make of it. But continued like he was just pausing to catch his mouth and thoughts back into alignment with each other. " So far the weyr here is very nice and not so different from home that I hesitate to get out. Just not many will see me for a while as I am trying to figure out things in my mind...there is much I've lost to get here...part of me doesn't want to lose anymore...part of me just wants to move forward...the other part just wants to be happy again." Smiling a bit he apologized for his outburst so to speak as he wasn't one really to lay his thoughts on another person, but the man gave him a feeling inside that he could do these things without so much as having to worry about offending him...he hoped.

Aethyr nodded in agreement about the dragons. “Especially if someone gets injured outside the Weyr a dragonrider-healer could just jump between to get there and save a life. This place can get lonely, especially at night. The dragonless just seem to float around and that doesn’t help. Hopefully the right dragon will find you the first time around. There’s something special about this clutch. It’s the first since the attack and the eggs came from a Gold everyone expected to die.” Aethyr gave Lairak and encouraging smile.
“I can understand, especially after everything you’ve been through. Things need to get sorted out in your mind. I’m sure a dragonet will help you decide and move on. Dragons can be very understanding. If you ever need some company or someone to talk with don’t hesitate to ask me, I’m a great listener. Ilex might fall asleep but I’ll listen, besides I’m hard to offend. It comes with being a healer some patients can be a little… vocal about what they think of you.” His brown flit, plopped down on the table and peered up at the other healer and chirped.
“Have you had much experience with flits? He seems to like you.” Of course the brown seemed to like everyone and everything, except thread of course. Ilex loved to chew on string even iff Aethyr was stitching someone up.
