Viril sighed as she swung her light pack onto her bed. There was little in the leather sack, only a few items of clothing and a comb, nothing personal. Sometimes she surprised even herself, but she never had anything personal at Horizon. 'I guess this is a sign that I really am getting a brand-new life.'
N'solm had dropped her off at the entrance to the Barracks, mumbling something about that crazy old Holder, and found somewhere else to be rather quickly. Dragonriders. She shook her head in amazement.
She found she wasn't alone in the Barracks, but she needed a little time to settle in before she started socializing. She lay down on the bed, folding her hands under her head and staring at the rough ceiling. 'I guess I'll have to sleep on my side,' she grumbled. 'Wouldn't want dust in my eyes. Or maybe I'll clean a little.' But the room was already immaculate. Maybe she'd explore later.
Glancing toward the door - or the opening that passed for a door, anyway - she thought she saw a touch of blue. Odd. She got up and was almost to the door of the Barracks when she almost stepped on the note. She pulled off the gaudy ribbon, unrolled the parchment and scanned the untidy scrawl. The Candidatemaster! Lessons! And it was almost noon! She hurriedly dropped the note, picked up her skirt, and ran.

Zirith...I can't just go nosing about because you want me to! But they're new! I'm sure they're all confused, and lost, and as a Dragonrider, you could help them. You're just nosy. Just looking for an excuse to dig into people's lives... So are you. You know me too well. Zirith snorted, and Maurisa was sure she could hear it, even here. Of course.
So that was why Maurisa found herself walking towards the candidate barracks, egged on by Zirith, whose head was peeking out from their weyr, her eyes gleaming. Neither dragon nor rider took too long to meet, greet, and chat with any newcomer to the Weyr - the pair were somewhat like Skyline's welcoming comitee.
Raising her hand to knock on the wall leading to the barracks, just to make sure anyone within knew she was coming, Maurisa was suddenly clipped by a female candidate running at full pelt from the barracks. The greenrider caught herself, and managed a wry expression. "Where's the fire?"
