Today was another of those days, Jessie had been asked to work with the healers, she wasn't thrilled. In the infirmary it was said one of the new creatures had been stationed there with its bond. She didn't want to go in there, foul beast it was, but she was forced. If they hadn't been short-handed she might have felt better about working there, as it was Felix was off in a corner watching the people and creatures such as flitts fly about.
At some point a small green had flown close enough that she'd jumped up trying to catch it, hissing, she landed on a bunk that had a patent in it. Jessie had tried to get rid of her, but the little beast had run off to hide under a bunk, where she now sat. Eyes stared out at her and anyone close enough to get swiped at.
"Can you please take this back to the closet." One of the healers asked giving her a basket of wraps and pins.
"Sure." She said flatly, walking in the direction of the closet.

That stuff smells. Bad. Why do we always have to go fetch it? Numbweed always smells bad, and we fetch it because we were asked to do so. You'd soon complain if there weren't any, the next time you scrape your self. Zirith's reply came with the impression of a haughty sniff. I am not saying I do not want to fetch it. I am just saying you never see a Bronze gathering numbweed. That's because we only have two! They're doubtless busy, say, oh, I don't know, running the Weyr? Maurisa said, with an uncharacteristicly sharp tone. Even though this snippy retort was out of character for Her's, the Green didn't comment. The stench of the numbweed, even unboiled, always made Maurisa somewhat tetchy. She associated the smell of the plant with her time in the infirmary, and that led to memories of the Basilisk attack. Practically after she had replied with that somewhat harsh comment, Maurisa sighed, and apologised. I'm sorry Zirrie...That wasn't nice, was it? The Green took it in stride, watching the progress of her rider from their weyrledge. Numbweed memories make you upset. As well as the Basilisk and Theirs in the sick-bay. I understand. Maurisa reached the infirmary doors, and winced at the prospect of running into a Basilisk. Even though supposedly bonded to a former Rider, the Harper didn't much want to meet it. The twinge in her left leg reminded her of her last meeting with one. It would be silly to try to harm you here. I would be there in a breath, and tell it so. Thank you, love. But maybe you should wait out here, hrm? Don't want you to knock anything over, now.
Pushing the door open, basket of numbweed leaves held under one arm, the Weyrsinger allowed her eyes time to adjust to the dimmer lighting indoors. After those hours outside near the river, the change was rather noticeable. Soon enough, though, she could make out enough that she was in no danger of walking into a patient, healer, or anything else. She caught the eye of one of the healers, and deposited her basket where directed. Brushing her hands, she made to escape before being asked to boil the leaves, stopping in her tracks before she collided with a woman carrying a basket of wraps and pins. Maurisa's heart lurched when she recognised her - Jessie, the Dragonless woman. Before she could find something to say, she noted a feline under a bed. Blinking, she felt a somewhat bemused smile on her face - the feline was watching the firelizards intently. Added to that she hadn't seen the Basilisk yet - and wasn't planning to, mind - the Weyrsinger found something cheerful in the feline's presence, even though the healers doubtless wished the creature gone.
((Sorry for somewhat...meh post.))

Almost colliding with someone, Jessie steaded her things, keeping them from hitting the floor. Once everything was steady she looked at the woman with irritation. Maurisa stood before her with numbweed leaves. Flinching at the sight of the green rider knots she thought of Lilith before catching the girl looking past her, fallowing her sight to see what caught her attention she saw Felix, who was stalking the fire-lizards.
"Felix" Jessie hissed when one of the healer's stepped right on her tail. Hissing back, Felix made a b-line toward Jessie and away from the others, dodging feet until she was under yet another bed, this time closer.
"Pardon me." Jessie said. "Would you like me to help you with those? If you fallow me, I'll put these away first." She asked when the master healer gave her a glare.
Not really waiting for a reply,as she still had to put the things away, she stepped around Maurisa and walked toward the storage closet, she didn't want to be in trouble for not putting away the material after all.
Felix didn't like when the woman had stepped on her tail, she'd dodged everyone to be near Jessie and wound up under another bed, this time she watched the girl who had leaves and was watching her. Sitting down, she began to groom herself, licking her fur down.

Maurisa flinched inwardly when she saw the pain on the dragonless woman's face after she had caught sight of the Weyrsinger's shoulder knots. Zirith could be heard, distantly, uttering a low crooning noise in sympathy. So, this was Jessie, one of the greenriders who had lost her Dragon when the Basilisks attacked, from within the mist. Maurisa couldn't be sure, but she think she and Zirith had been a dragonlength or so behind Jessie and her Lilith. The Harper closed her eyes briefly. If she had been quicker, could they have saved Jessie's green? No. You had enough to reckon with. Do not borrow worry from the past. That's...true, but I can't help but feel guilty... You are a kind person - I would not have chosen you were you otherwise, Zirith said with pride, so help her by talking now.
Maurisa nodded, and her eyes snapped back into focus as the other woman spoke. "Pardon me. Would you like me to help you with those? If you fallow me, I'll put these away first." Maurisa nodded again, this time to Jessie, and gave her a small smile, not overly bright, but friendly and warm. "Of course, thank you." Though Jessie had not waited for an answer, stepping around the greenrider and replacing the basket in a cupboard. As she waited, Maurisa shifted her own basket, and looked at the feline, sprinting to hide under a bed closer to where they stood. Never a huge fan of felines, the Harper nonetheless watched this one with some warmth - it looked so, well, cute.

Jessie had seen the look that passed over the woman, the one when a dragon is speaking to them. She missed that most, the sense of never being alone, were she could rely on someone to feel her pain and help her, but now she didn't have that and was forced to live without. If Felix didn't need her, she would have left long ago to join her beloved Lilith.
"Alright, what do you need done with these, have the healers given you instructions yet." She asked Maurisa turning around to face her.
Felix yawned under the bed and licked the spot where she was stepped on, her tail was fine but her dignity was slightly in pain. Her beautiful tail had been stepped on, but she would live, after all, the flying things were interesting and she wanted one to play with. Spotting a green settled on a nearby table, she quietly crouched on the ground and waited for her moment.

The look on the Dragonless woman's face was plain - she had seen Maurisa speaking to Zirith, and felt the loss of her own dragon. Maurisa debated asking Zirith to speak to Jessie, to maybe help, but the Weyrsinger had no idea if that would make it worse for the bereaved woman - a reminder of all she had lost, and could never regain. Well, once Maurisa knew Jessie better, then she could better decide how to help, if she could, that was.
"Alright, what do you need done with these, have the healers given you instructions yet." Maurisa shook her head, hair coming loose from its tail and falling in a mess around her shoulders. She'd need it cut soon, if it was getting rebellious enough to escape the tail. "No, not yet. They're somewhat busy today, though. Usually someone meets me at the door to take the numbweed, and then send me off with a list of other plants they need." She pulled a comical grimace, though in truth she didn't mind. Though still wary of leaving the Weyr, Risa also knew they needed medical supplies, and the necessary plants wouldn't be so kind as to grow within the Bowl. Until they did, the Healers needed Riders to fetch the plants for them.
The feline paused during her grooming, eyes fixed on a green 'lizard that had come to rest on a table. Maurisa blinked, and jerked her chin at the scene. "I hope that green moves soon...I don't want to see who would win out of a feline and a fire lizard."

She couldn't help but feel that somehow the healers were playing a joke on her. Sighing she crossed her arms and thought for a moment, when she'd been given the job of collecting the plants she'd also been given a job to put them in the pots to be made into a cream that made the medicine.
"alright, sense we aren't sure what to do and i don't want us both in trouble, why don't we see if they have any pots ready to make the medicine, if they don't we'll go and put them in the cabinets for later." She said motioning for Maurisa to fallow her.
She didn't miss the fact that she'd made a comment about Felix, so while they walked by she made a motion that made the green fly off, this made Felix Yowl from under a bed and leave, heading for the door.
"now she won't cause anymore trouble for us." Jessie said glaring at the retreating cat.

Maurisa frowned slightly, an expression utterly foreign to the face of the usually cheerful Weyrsinger. She could tell by a look on Jessies face that a similiar thought had crossed her mind - could the Healers really be messing them around? Why? What would that possibly achieve? As far as she knew, neither she nor Zirith had wronged a Healer, so it couldn't be a grudge. Had Jessie done something? Maurisa doubted it - the Dragonless woman didn't seem the sort to do any such thing.
"alright, sense we aren't sure what to do and i don't want us both in trouble, why don't we see if they have any pots ready to make the medicine, if they don't we'll go and put them in the cabinets for later." The Weyrsinger nodded, and followed Jessie to where some pots were placed, evidentally for this very task. She wrinkled her nose, and hoped she wouldn't be asked to boil the numbweed, but, with a sigh, she resolved to do so if asked. Maybe she wouldn't even complain about it, either.
Jessie shooed the firelizard away as they passed by, sending the feline running to the door, voicing a complaint. "now she won't cause anymore trouble for us." Maurisa gave a wry grin. "At least not here," she joked.

The pots were boiling and only one healer was present to watch them. A older man who smelled as bad as the pots did was sitting in a chair watching them cross the room.
'well ladies, are you going to help me.' he commented.
"We've no idea what you need done with these, so we brought them to you." Jessie said irritated at the fact that no healer other then him was present.
'well, pick a pot and get started.' He waved them off as he went back to his work.
"I guess that answers our question, we're stuck with pot duty while the other healers get to move around." She didn't blame them, after all, she wasn't much of a helper when it came to those 'Basilisks' and their bonds.
Felix didn't leave her mind even though she left the room, her beauty of a cat didn't get along with those beasts either, but she didn't leave her for long.
"At least not here," She couldn't help but grin at the thought of Felix causing trouble somewhere else. That cat got into a lot of trouble sometimes, and only when Jessie wasn't looking, otherwise she was fine.
"I don't know what she'll do, but hopefully the Weryleader won't scold me for it." She said almost with a straight face, a small curve of her lips and then she was a stone again.
"Right anyway, pick a pot and we'll get started." she said motioning for her to pick one of the steaming pots.
Felix left the infirmary for her own fun, wondering down the halls as she went in search of rodents or even a possible lizard to catch. Those flying things were fun to chase, and she wouldn't mind catching one, but if Jessie didn't want her too, well she'd find something else then wouldn't she. She prowled down the halls closer to the other sections of the infirmary and spotted one of the flying lizards again. She wasn't sure what to do, chase or leave it.

Maurisa followed Jessie over to an array of pots, none of them smelling all too pleasent. A male healer was sat with them, exuding an odour much like the pots he was overseeing. There lies a similar fate for me, she thought to herself, knowing with a sinking feeling where this was leading - boiling numbweed. Her suspicions were confirmed when the man waved them off, with orders as what to do, before he moved off to attened some other duty. "I guess that answers our question, we're stuck with pot duty while the other healers get to move around." Maurisa swallowed her ire at being stuck with stinky, nasuea inducing numbweed, and gave Jessie a wry grin. "That we are, but it sure beats kitchen duty. Well," she amended, "when I'm on kitchen duty, anything is better then the result." Normally, a Greenrider wouldn't be expected to take up such various duties, but the Weyrsinger could think of no better way to make sure she knew what was going on in the Weyr. She didn't neglect either her usual Harper duties, or her Dragon, the former being a pleasure, and the latter expecting Hers to get the gossip.
Jessie grinned, though it was shortlived, at the mention of her feline getting into trouble elsewhere. "I don't know what she'll do, but hopefully the Weryleader won't scold me for it." Maurisa picked a pot, and dumped her numbweed into it, bit by bit, as she replied. "Oh, I wouldn't worry too much about the Weyrleaders getting annoyed over a feline," she winced, comically, both in memory and at the smell, "They've had worse problems with a certain mischeavous Green." She poked the leaves under the water using a stirring stick, not at all enthusiastic, but determined to stick to this task.

Jessie didn't mind the smell of the pots, though it was an odor she wouldn't ever consider using on herself, she sure didn't think it could be any worse then cleaning out beast stalls.
"That we are, but it sure beats kitchen duty. Well," she amended, "when I'm on kitchen duty, anything is better then the result."
She glanced at Maurisa while she sat down to help add the leaves to the pots. Sure this may be better for some, but she'd rather have company from a drudge then one of those creatures and its bond. She'd never been one for wanting to do chore when she had so much more time to spend with her Lilith, when she could wash, fly, play, and so much more, but that was taken from her, now she was stuck with pot duty cleaning up after people in the infirmary. Snapping herself back to reality she thought of a comment.
"I would assume that being with your dragon would be much better then chores or being around a filthy beast." She wasn't sure what made her say it, but it had already been said, now she couldn't take it back. A few healers glanced her way but didn't say anything.
"Oh, I wouldn't worry too much about the Weyrleaders getting annoyed over a feline," she winced, comically, both in memory and at the smell, "They've had worse problems with a certain mischievous Green."
Thinking of the trouble that could be caused made her think of Lilith again and she couldn't help but relate in a manner. "They do get themselves in trouble." She said more to herself then Maurisa. Memories of times she'd been in trouble with her's came and went, but she pushed them away and thought only of the task at hand, quickly shutting herself down.
"Don't forget to stir them, don't get any on yourself either, hate for something to go numb, be useless after that." She sounded cold but she meant it for better.

"I would assume that being with your dragon would be much better then chores or being around a filthy beast." Maurisa looked up, blotting her eyes on her sleeve as the fumes made them water. This was a chore she would have been glad to pass over, but she wasn't about to leave Jessie to do it all alone. "Oh, trust me. I love spending time with Zirith, but sometimes, she sends me out into the Weyr to gather gossip for her." Maurisa shrugged with one shoulder, a grin on her face. Her dragon often sent Hers to gather information the green herself could not.
"Don't forget to stir them, don't get any on yourself either, hate for something to go numb, be useless after that." Jessie spoke with a cold tone, but the singer let it roll off her back, nodding pleasently at the advice even as she followed it. It must be hard, being dragonless and then having a Greenrider assisting you - a constant reminder. "I'll be careful. I'd hate to have my hand go numb - this stuff can last for hours, and who knows what else the day will throw at me?"

Jessie nodded as she spoke of her dragon. She wouldn't put a thought or word of the wise for her, but she would listen. She thought of the gossip, what would a dragon do with gossip, after all, Lilith didn't really need it when she was alive. Grinding her teeth, she went about to add leaves to the pot each time Maurisa stirred, this way insuring the numb-weed would become like a salve rather then water.
"I'll be careful. I'd hate to have my hand go numb - this stuff can last for hours, and who knows what else the day will throw at me?"
"Anything could happen, Thus the reason you should keep yourself out of the salve as much as possible." She said looking up from the pot a split second after hearing a suddenly noise. She sighed when she spotted Felix at the door Meowing at a blue fire-lizard who had landed to hiss at her from above.

Maurisa kept stirring. Jessie kept adding leaves. The numbweed kept smelling awful, right under her nose, the fumes of which she knew would make her clothes stink for sevendays afterwards. She sighed, and wiped her eyes again on her sleeve, the fabric starting to get somewhat sodden from repeated use. Zirith suddenly butted in, evidentally feeling the discomfort of her rider. Why don't you ever do this outside? Maurisa answered without halting her stirring. Can you smell this? I wouldn't want to inflict this on anyone in the Bowl! Imagine if a breeze blew it right into the Lower Caverns... Zirith seemed less then impressed by this prospect and agreed that yes, it was best to do it here.
"Anything could happen, Thus the reason you should keep yourself out of the salve as much as possible." Maurisa gulped, and nodded, remembering the last few times she had had to rush off to attend to some mishap or other. Mostly because of Zirith...Though twelve Turns out of the shell, she still seemed intent on acting like a weyrling. Jessie was looking at something though, when the harper went to reply, so, following the dragonless woman's glance, Maurisa caught sight of the feline watching the blue lizard. She couldn't help it. She grinned. The feline remined her so much of a certain dragon, always sticking their nose into someone's bussiness. "She sure loves stalking 'lizards, huh?"

Jessie saw the look of dragon speech pass the girls face. She looked away and made sure Felix didn't eat the flitt, she looked at all the healers and made sure they didn't see Felix as she too her time to think of a plan to get Felix over to her side. Sighing she was about to try the old whistle routine when Maurisa said something, looking over she smiled, which looked more like a frown.
"She will honestly chase anyone that flies." She quickly looked over at Felix as another Yowl was let loose and whistled once, Felix's ears whipped in her direction before she seemed to give up and with tail held high, make her way to Jessie.
A small Mr-ow escaped the monster when she rubbed against her masters leg, purring and walking back and forth making sure she was give attention.
"I'm thinking about breeding her, but it would mean more mouth's to feed." She said looking at the blue flitt who was now glaring at Felix.
