Your name:
Bay!
Character Number:
Dos.
Character Name:
Erika
Age:
17 turns.
Birth Season:
Mid-summer.
Gender:
Female.
Rank:
Candidate
Sexuality:
Heterosexual.
Appearance:
She stands at 5 feet, 6 inches, and weighs somewhere around 120 pounds. Average, and perhaps a little lanky, considering for some reason her legs seem to be quite long. It might just be an illusion, however, seeing as they're really no longer than they should be. Her face is normal, and not that striking. Noticeable cheekbones, pixie nose, groomed light brown eyebrows. Her jade eyes are very expressive, and have a bit of a catty or almond shape to them. Eyelashes are black, and curled, but not as long as you might think. Heck, some guys have longer eyelashes than her! But who notices those kinds of things besides the individual themselves? Her hair is brown, maybe even slightly auburn in color. It usually goes a few inches past her shoulders, but the length of her hair and her bangs usually gets out of control, considering she doesn't get it trimmed that often. It's also somewhat thick, and a bit wavy, but nothing she can't handle.
From her neck down, there's again, nothing too noticeable. Her skin is usually tanned to a point, but it doesn't retain the color for long. As soon as autumn approaches, it seems as if all of the coloring fades away, and all that's left is a faint sun-kissed shade, which is unusual for the people of Pern. Her face freckles a little after extreme exposure to the sun, but if she's out for that long of a time, the chances are that she'll end up sunburned and the freckles will fade away, only to return again. Erika has a slight hourglass figure, but most of her clothing hides it from view.
Personality:
Erika is generally a good, well-rounded person. Kind, helpful, confident. All those could describe her to a point, but she also has a bit of a feisty side. While she may essentially be "good", she won't let people trample over her. She most certainly has a line that can, and most likely will, be crossed over at some point in time. Erika's not easily angered, and she usually gets irritated or impatient for a while before entering a full rage. Just realize that while yes, she's considerate and nice, she can also be nasty. Doesn't like being shoved or pushed around like a rag-doll, and can hold her own if need be.
She has always been a bit independent, but she's never been anti-social. Company is always refreshing. Even if its quiet and reserved, she enjoys it. Its more or less that she likes the feeling of someone there. One doesn't have to talk all the time to be enjoyed, right? Also, she enjoys trying to figure out how individual people tick. For some reason, she finds it amusing how different people are from one another, how opposites attract, or why some people really aggravate others. She'll often stay away from a crowd just to watch them, and that plus her independent streak make her appear to be distant. That's not... exactly the case. Reserved, maybe at times, but there's nothing that can hold her back from joining a conversation or starting one of her own with a stranger. That isn't to say that she doesn't respect people's privacy; she knows when to not just bound over to a random fellow and banter on about some crazy topic.
Intelligence wise, the girl isn't exactly book smart, yet she's certainly not stupid. Wit and common sense are key. Those cogs in her mind are forever turning, developing some sort of plot or plan. What she creates aren't necessarily diabolical or dangerous, but usually just result in simply how she can get what she wants. What she lacks in knowledge she can easily back up with other tweaks of her personality.
History:
Erika, as a child, was energetic and seemingly innocent. She was rambunctious. She was a tomboy. She picked fights. She was a leader. She and the children that lived at Telgar at that time were looked upon more as a pack of wild dogs than humans really, more or less because of all the mischief they got into. Typical kids, the lot of them were, yet Erika was the worst.
She was the little girl who romped about and caused trouble, yet held no shame in hiding behind her mother if she feared she'd be punished for something.
Throughout her life living at Telgar Hold, she and her mother had always been close, but not suffocatingly so. Besides, Odette was often busy working, and Erika running around carelessly at the time, so for the majority of the day the two were separated. The two never kept secrets from one another. Erika finally got around to asking who exactly her father was - she'd already assumed that he didn't live at the hold, or else she'd see him from day to day. With no reason to keep the truth from her daughter, Odette caved in. Yet, all she told Erika was that her father was a bronze dragonman of Pern and that she was named mostly after him: nothing more, nothing less. The young girl was somewhat unsatisfied with the answer, but she couldn't complain. She did however keep constant watch on the skies afterward, keenly watching for a metallic shimmer from above.
For all she knows, the bronze rider never returned - she couldn't recall a bronze dragon ever visiting the hold when she was younger, and neither could her mother. Erika would remember such a large, metallic creature; whenever dragonmen came to Telgar in search of possible candidates, she would spend at least a few hours of the day staring out a window to gaze at the huge beasts. Unlike many of the hold brats that lived alongside her, she never really had a huge desire to one day become a rider. Not that she thought the dragons to be stupid or lacking of emotion: no, certainly not that. She guessed it was just the thought of being the daughter of a drudge that made her feel somewhat hindered; why would a dragon even look her way if they knew her rank? The denial in her youth carried on until around the age of fifteen turns, until hitting puberty sent her childhood world crashing down.
For the most part she separated herself others and became independent from the group of now young teens. It wasn't that much of a change, really. Even though she hung around them a lot, she'd never been great friends with anyone. Silence enveloped her energetic demeanor as a few more turns passed. With the wave of hormones her body began to supply her, there became a new, sudden strong need to try and prove herself as well, a quality that currently dominates most of her personality.
Only twice did dragons arrive at her hold after this change, and during that time she made sure she was hanging around the riders more than she normally would. Becoming a candidate she felt would make her feel accomplished, and would certainly open up a new portal to life.
Her first attempt went... well, oddly, if not badly. It seemed no matter how long she skittered behind the riders, not a single pair of eyes were turned her way. Except for, of course, that one brief look-over that every member of the hold received. He was a bluerider, from what she recalls. Both he, and what she could see of his dragon, were quite snooty. From the moment he looked at her and a few of the other brats at Telgar, that thin little eyebrow of his rose, mocking their very existence, it seemed. Despite how strongly she began to loathe the rider, she still followed, determined to try and make an impression on him. It didn't work. He left perhaps a day later, Erika unsure if he even chose a candidate or not to take with him.
With another turn, came another rider searching for candidates. This time the girl was much more fortunate. Her strong desire to accompany the man back to whatever Weyr he originated from apparently made him, or rather his dragon, realize he'd struck gold on his search. She happened to be one of the last people he met at Telgar, but she was the one he continued to check up on after their meeting. The next day, she was informed by the brownrider (she later came to know as A'nir) that she was going to be taken back to his Weyr as a candidate. Completely ecstatic, she immediately went to find Odette to tell her the news. It was more of a farewell than a moment of asking of permission to leave Telgar, but in the end Erika found herself waltzing out the large hold doors to meet A'nir's brown outside - the one who had made the decision on allowing her to come with them, he'd said.
She remembers Valiscath somewhat fondly. He was mellow and easygoing, yet still seemed to have little tolerance for anyone besides his Mine. She could see this in the way the brown acted alone - its not like the dragon spoke directly to her or anything. The brownrider explained that he came from a Weyr by the name of Skyline - a newer establishment located on the western continent. Erika was baffled, but she said nothing. He continued to talk, saying that their Queen might lay a clutch soon, and they would need candidates. She couldn't help it. She asked why on Pern they would come out this far to search for a candidate, and why they hadn't found one until they came to her! A'nir chuckled and said that sometimes they had to search for a while before finding someone to take back with them. He then relayed a bit of information from Valiscath to her, but after she mounted the brown and was latched into the straps, nothing was said between dragon and candidate. As soon as the beast lurched upward and thrust himself into the air, between was accessed. The sharp sting of sheer cold and emptiness hit Erika rather hard, but she could sense Valiscath under her and A'nir behind her. The darkness didn't make her feel as utterly alone as she'd thought it would. Once they winked back into Pern, she found her arms flipped up into the air in delight. to her embarrassment. Both beast and rider could feel the joy of her experience, and it was a little odd, but also relieving that she hadn't become one of the many pernese who were afraid of between.
She had heard of the basilisk mauling - how severe it had been. But in all honesty, she wasn't really sure what to think of it. When she arrived at Skyline Weyr, the trauma was much more severe than she ever could have guessed. Just looking into the eyes on an ex-dragonrider was horrific: the dazed, almost hollow stare they gave everyone and everything was haunting. The side effects that hindered their personalities was even worse, and it was bringing down the Weyr. Even worse, the state of the Queen was horrible. Living only on the whim that she had a clutch to lay and protect could be the only reason she was alive, Erika assumed. Horrible. All because of those stupid basilisks! After seeing how much damage they'd done, Erika had formed a rather nasty vendetta against them. But once not one, but two former dragonriders had bonded to them, she had a slight change of heart. They were intelligent, and could maybe help them find out more about the basilisks that had attacked the riders. That's the most lenient she feels about the dragon-like things. Erika isn't afraid of them, but once she looks at one, she can't help but see a torn dragonrider in it's place.
Relation to Existing/Pending Character?:
None.
Future:
I'm not exactly sure. One thing I do know is that she wants to help out the Weyr as much as possible, and she feels especially bad for the Queen. She doesn't know how she can help, however, being a mere candidate (of course she knows that doing chores is helping some, but that's besides the point). She's hoping that after Impression she'll be more of a help.
Pets:
Black feline Wikett (deceased)
Dragon Color/Personality/Gender Preference:
Personality doesn't matter, honestly. Gender preference... as long as it doesn't mess with her orientation, that's fine too! However I'm guessing that would have to make the dragon female, no? Color-wise, I don't really have any choices. I don't think this place has any color mutations yet, so unless she has that option in this clutch, I'm left with gold or green. Either of which are fine.
Cannon/Uncannon:
Cannon and Uncannon are both fine! I don't mind new colors at all.
Reason:
Um, she wants to Impress? xD
ooc;; Ok, thanks! And asadsadksdas, I'm so sorry. -facepalm- I didn't really mean to send her flying into a board before she was accepted, I got caught up in the moment. Sigh.
