Your name: Meadowlark
Character Number: 1
Character Name: Mortalia
Age: 16
Birth Season: Spring
Gender: F
Rank: Candidate
Sexuality: heterosexual (It doesn't really matter to me though at all for her dragon color)
Appearance: Long dark brown hair that reaches half way down her back and has streaks of very dark auburn and golden brown that are highlighted when she stands in the sunshine. She takes good care of her hair, its her one vanity, though she rarely pays attention to it once its tied back. Mortalia usually ties her long hair back in a braid, or a ponytail. By the end of the day, its usually fairly messy, though she brushes it and reties it at the end of the day. She has large dark blue eyes; so dark the color isn't recognizable unless the light hits them. Her skin is naturally pale, though slightly tanned from being outdoors and freckled when she spends a lot of time in the sun, especially across her arms and nose.
She stands at 5'3, with a slender built, slightly wiry, with long legs and quick movements. She moves carefully, and laughs only when surprised into it, or when something is so funny her laughter bursts out of her. She has a musical voice, because she was meant to be a singer before she became a Candidate. She normally chooses skirts or light blue or brown that reach her ankles, with short boots and loose blouses. These are generally not very high quality clothes, but serviceable enough.
Personality: Mortalia was deeply thoughtful, even when she was young, always watching what others did before she took her first move in any direction. She is cautious, carefully thinking through her actions before making them. Some believe she is timid, though once she makes a decision, she will stand her ground and defend herself and her point.
She is not overly vocal, preferring to listen to others ideas while formulating her own, and draw ideas together. Compromise is always best in her mind, rather than outright confrontation. She hates spontaneity, because of the risk it represents. She loves animals of all kinds, and hates that her parents never allowed her to obtain a fire lizard when offered one, though she understood why they couldn't.
She prefers to be nice to people, because she is empathetic towards others, but when kind words run out, and there is no other option, she will say what she must to get other people to understand, if no one will listen to her. Used to being in an environment where she has to be creative to be heard, and deal with a low level of chaos at all times at least, Mortalia isn't easily frazzled.
History: Mortalia was the sixth child of Mortan and Lianna, both of whom were in the Harpers Craft. She had one younger sister, a year her junior, and five older brothers. Her childhood was not unhappy, her parents loved her, the house was full of music and action, someone was always getting into trouble, or accomplishing something. Her brothers were all in the Harpers guild, and her parents were often teased about how they should be awarded somehow for breeding up so many heirs to join their guild. It was easy for her to fly a bit under the radar, because there were so many children. She wasn't bothered by this, she couldn't be lonely in her household, someone was always dragging her over to practice with them, or help with chores. She merely learned how to sift through the chaos to meet her goals and get things accomplished.
She was fairly close to her younger sister, trading down clothes to her, and helping with her when things got too busy in their home. Her sister's voice was so so at best, and she later went into wind instruments so she wasn't a 'rival' in any way in that department.
Moving West was a big drama for their family, her mother, a very vocal person, was eager to go, while her father, more steadfast, seemed reluctant to leave despite the dire situation. Mortalia was still with her family, and believed, quietly to herself, that the move was important, it stood the best chance for them to make a good and better life for Pern in general. She was happy when they arrived, relieved they'd made it with everyone in one piece, and hopeful for Pern, and her families future. She avoided the family squabbles over the move, even after they'd arrived in the West, and was surprised, more than anyone, when she was chosen as a Candidate just as the family was getting settled in to their new home. They arrived at Horizon Hold about two Turns after it had been established, and Mortalia was a little worried about jumping into a new role, one she'd never expected to have, in a new place.
Mortalia had just gotten used to her new status as a Candidate, and those around her, when the attack from the basilisks happened. This new development, with the almost death of the Queen and the death of even MORE dragons, scared her, badly. Mortalia hated not being in control of what was happening, it almost seemed like fate was trying to STOP the Weyrs from surviving, no matter where they turned, they met another horrifying obstacle.
When Dusk arrived, she was taken aback, horrified even, like many of the others, because just the sight of one of the creatures that had killed so many of the Weyr folk made most shudder. However, given time and thought, Mortalia tentatively let go of these emotions to try and figure out how these events could help the Weyr, rather than hinder it even more. She knew the Weyr had suffered a huge loss, and was frightened about that would mean for Pern and her own future. Though the basilisk initially terrified her, Mortalia felt, after thinking it over, that the basilisk's might prove to be the safest choice overall in preserving Pern's future. She saw that fear created chaos in the hearts of others, and refused to give in to her own fear of the unknown. Her family sent her messages, asking her about what was taking place, but she didn't want anyone else's fears to cloud her mind.
Relation to Existing/Pending Character?: N/A
Future: Basilisk?
Pets: You may only create up to two firelizards. If you choose to have a brown then he will be the only one. You may not create gold/bronze flitters, as these may only be won, hatched or bought. It's up to you whether you give them both to one character or spread them between two.
Dragon Colour/Personality/Gender Preference: Candidates specified as queen or bronze only will be likely to stand for a long time, or never Impress. If not mentioned then I will assume you're down for anything. Remember there will also be new colours in the coming hatchings, but only a couple; You may specify as uncannon, but you're unlikely to get it if I feel you've not contributed to the Weyr, and that goes for metallics too
Cannon/Uncannon: You may specify cannon-colours only, but bear in mind that un-canon specified candidates may have to wait a while; I'm not going to immediately flood the hatchings with mutants
Reason: Why should I let you have what you want?
