Your Name: Rye
Character Number: One!
Character Name:
Lucarien {L'rien if he Impresses}
Age:
20 Turns
Birth Season:
Spring, Turn 2560
Gender:
Male
Rank:
Candidate -- Journeyman Smith
Sexuality:
Heterosexual
Appearance:
Standing right at 6'1, Lucarien is neither the tallest or the shortest of men, but he isn't exactly what you could call a pushover. Though he's thinner and not as broad as his father was, this candidate's frame is lined with muscle, strength he gained while growing up in a forge and wrestling with his four older brothers. His skin is naturally olive toned, and during the hot summers he tans easily, although every once in a while he'll get sunburnt. Lucarien's hair, possibly the only physical feature he inherited from his father, is dark, chocolate brown, and in different lights it looks like different shades. In the bright sunlight red highlights can be seen, but in the dark, his hair looks nearly black. Usually the candidate tries to keep it trimmed above his ears, however, during some of the colder months he's been known to let it grow out a little more. His best feature, his eyes, are his one oddity; they're blue, a trait he received from his mother, and they contrast sharply against his otherwise dark features.
As far as his build goes, he isn't skin and bones, but neither is he flabby. He has body fat, yes, but bear in mind that he had to work for every ounce of strength he has; genetics didn't offer him any breaks like his brothers received. Lucarien's legs are longer than his torso, and his arms are lean and corded, their smooth musculature marred by scars he garnered working the iron and metals in his father's forge. As far as clothing goes, he really isn't what you'd consider a fashion freak, but Lucarien isn't completely apathetic when it comes to his garments, either. He likes to look sharp, but he knows that it's better to go for comfort and reliability over looks and the current styles. Usually, you'll find him in wherhide pants and a fitted cloth shirt that clings somewhat to his frame, a shirt that keeps out of the way of his hands when he works. This candidate prefers pants over shorts, even when it's hot, mainly out of habit. See, in the forge, if you didn't adequately cover your legs, you were likely to get plenty of burns and scars from the work you did, and so Lucarien continues this practice today, even though he's out of the workshop now.
How Lucarien carries himself is the one trait that really gives hint to his self-assuredness, the trait that contrasts with his quiet voice and his unassuming looks. He walks tall, with his back straight and his head held high, and he strides purposefully everywhere he goes. He's not one to get in a hurry going somewhere, but he does move with a strength of purpose that other candidates may not posses. Lucarien knew this was what he wanted to do, believed he would be Searched, and he'd dreamed of riding a dragon for most of his life. By no means is this man lacking in self-confidence; he's not as loud and in-your-face as other men may be, but when you see him it's obvious Lucarien believes in what he's doing and has already set goals in his mind outlining what he wants to achieve.
Personality:
Quiet, but with a steadfast resolve that even the strongest of opponents find hard to match, Lucarien is no boy to brush off, nor a man to be underestimated. The youngest of five boys, he knew he would never be the strongest or the biggest, so Lucarien figured out from a young age that the best way for him to win a fight would never be brute strength, even if he held more than the average kid his age. He had to figure out how to outsmart his brothers, how to outmaneuver them in ways that would give him an advantage. This didn't mean that once he'd learned, he always beat them when they wrestled, but he did give them more of a test. Make no mistake, Lucarien is intelligent, intelligent and gifted with words as only a harper's son could be.
His confidence stems from his early childhood, and was reinforced up until he was Searched and set out on his own. As a child, his family wasn't exactly high class, but Lucarien never wanted for anything, and his brothers were always around to bolster him, should his confidence ever need a boost. They were a tight brood, those boys, and from them Lucarien learned the value of family and close relationships. His parents, too, contributed; his father instilled in him a work ethic only seen Lucare's boys, and his mother, Saphirien was a steadfast confidant, a woman he knew he could talk to about anything. From her he learned compassion and perserverence, as her lot in life before she met his father hadn't exactly been the easiest. His parents made sure he knew respect and how to give it, and one of their chief accomplishments was molding his ambitious nature into an asset that, with some work, could get him anywhere he wanted in life.
Because Lucarien is soft-spoken, he is often overlooked, and this suits him just fine. Not being the center of attention allows him to watch and observe the folks around him, and this has served over the years in developing his sense of people's characters. Overall, he's a decent judge of a person, but one of his specialties lies in the minor, little details that people overlook, those details that can really give the biggest hints into people's natures. His appreciation for the smaller details came out often in his work as Smith, where he would make decorative swords just as often as he would make a working, plain one. Lucarien is one who takes pleasure in beauty, whether he created it himself or it's in the world around him, and this, too, could be attributed to his observant nature.
One of the major flaws of Lucarien, though, could be his temper. Passionately opinionated, though he might not express his thoughts often, he has a brutal, black-and-white idea of right and wrong, and when argued with, most are likely to see glimpses of his anger. Like all his brothers, he possesses a violent, fiery anger that comes out when he's enraged. Yeah, he has a long fuse, but once aggravated it won't take much more to set him off. For instance, Lucarien hates lying. Seriously, it's one of his biggest irritations, and if he catches you in a lie, he'll call you out on it in a heartbeat. Cunning he may be, he'll never outright lie to you, because in his eyes, lying is the lowest form of disrespect, even if it would be kinder to lie. This said, if he catches you in a lie, prepare to be dressed down with such fervor that even a fly won't land on you. Such is the way with his anger; he won't yell and fuss, but he'll speak with a white-hot rage that sears your ears just hearing it. And his glare? Well, let's just say he can freeze you with only a look.
History:
Parents:
Lucare, a Master Smith + Saphirien, a Harper
Siblings:
Luren, 30 Turns, Smith
S'ren, 26 Turns, Deceased Rider of Bronze Reventh
Luhare 23 Turns, Smith
Sehen, 23 Turns, Miner
When Lucare, a broad-shouldered, big-hearted Smith, and Saphirien, a beautiful Harper gifted with words, announced their relationship, many never saw it lasting. They were the picture of young, reckless love... but years later, their playful banter still holds the fiery, passionate emotions that bound them together when they first met. A year after they were married in a small hold they settled in at Fort Weyr, the site at which Lucare's services had been requested, and a few months later their first child, Luren, was born. He was a loud, boisterous boy from the start, a hellion with a head full of black hair like his father. Four years later, Soren, their second child, was born, and he was quiet where Luren w as not, but both shared a passion for mischief. A couple more years passed, and then the twins, Luhare and Sehen were born a week after their oldest brother turned seven. Then, finally, Lucarien was born three years after the twins, and Saphirien finally convinced her husband she wanted no more children.
Lucarien's childhood was uneventful, you could say. He was never injured more seriously than a broken collarbone, he excelled in his father's craft, and he always had other boys running around the house, so he was never bored. He learned to wield knives and swords with the best of him, and his mother taught him the enough with a bow and arrow to keep him from going hungry, should the need arise, though he's not especially skilled with the bow and arrow as he is with knives. The highlight of his childhood, you could say, came when he was ten and his brother, Soren, was Searched.
Soren's Searching wasn't exactly common; the event was entirely unexpected by both parties. He'd been out, running an errand across the weyr for his father when T'lin, a known Searchrider, grabbed him by the shoulder and caught his attention, telling Soren about his dragon and the blue's curious fascination with him. Once he realized what had happened, he ran back home to tell his family, who were all ecstatic for him. Of course, his father was somewhat chagrined that he was loosing a pair of hands in the forge, but his delight for his son soon overrode that. For Lucarien, this meant that he might actually be related to one of the group that had always seemed so lofty powerful, and he was more than excited. With Soren's Searching, it made the dragonriders that much more real to him, and thus began his love affiar with the mighty beasts.
As Lucarien grew older, his interest in the dragons came and went. At times he was so immersed in the forge that they would fall into the back of his mind, but whenever Soren, now S'ren, came home to visit, those dreams were forcefully drug back to the surface by his brother's bronze, Reventh. To Lucarien, the dragonriders were the elite, the leaders of his world, and they soon began to symbolize everything he wanted. To be a part of that elite was more than likely out of his reach, but shardit, he was going to try his hardest, anyway.
When word got out that the dragons were considering a move, S'ren came home to talk with his father, now a Master Smith, about making the journey west with the dragons. Always eager for adventure, Lucare readily accepted, and things were set up for them to migrate. Lucarien, through all this, was pleased. After all, if he wanted to be a dragonrider, what better way to be searched than to move westward with them? Also, it helped that during the process he got to ride Reventh around when he wasn't needed elsewhere, since S'ren was constantly present, helping their father and getting things together. When everything was finally moved and they had quarters and a forge waiting on the Western Continent, Lucare and Saphirien relocated their family to Skyline Weyr, Lucarien with them.
Almost a turn after they moved Lucarien was Searched, and his was actually official, unlike his brother's. His excitement was infectious, and with some help from his brother S'ren he fell easily into candidate duties. Lucarien was used to working with his hands as it was, so the grunt work they were made to do was nothing too hard for him. Months later, the first clutch laid in Skyline hatched, and much to his disappointment, Lucarien was left standing. However, he knew that such was the way of the dragons, and he had two more turns to Impress. Once again, he resumed his candidate duties, and when Ariseth flew, his dreams of Impressing returned violently. However, something happened to make his attention turn from the imminent clutching of the gold, something that left scars on his psyche that remain even today.
The basilisks attacked.
On that fateful day, the weyr lost many of it's riders and dragons, but Lucarien lost his brother. During his time at the new weyr, Lucarien had been spending more and more time with his dragonrider brother, and the loss of both S'ren and Reventh came as a terrible shock to the candidate. He was enraged and grieving, so when Dusk arrived at the Weyr, he was immediately put off. Why should they let the things in when they slaughtered so many? Why were they even giving them a chance? Yeah, it had Imprinted.... but why? His grief over S'ren hasn't exactly given his the clearest view when it comes to the basilisks. So, he does the best he can to stay out of the way of those things, but should his candidate duties put him in the path of the creatures, he'll do what he must. After all, Saphirien taught her youngest son better than to ignore someone who had the potential to eventually be of use to him.
Future:
Like any male candidate, he has dreams of becoming a Weyrleader, even if he would never say it aloud. However, if he is not to be a Weyrleader, he wants to have a position that will enable him to be a leading voice in the weyr, say a wingleader or wingsecond. As for where I see him going? Ha, well, I'm not quite sure what I want.

Dragon Colour/Personality/Gender Preference:
Well, the color really doesn't matter to me. Of course, Lucarien wants a Bronze, but I don't really have a preference. If anything, I just want a boy dragon, lol. As for personality... I don't really have a set one in mind for him? I'll be happy with whatever you give me.
Canon/Uncanon:
It doesn't matter. <3
Reason:
I told you to pick whatever you wanted because, well, you're matching the dragons and the riders. As much as I would like a certain color, I feel certain you'll give me a baby that either matches or balances my Lucarien, and that's all I can ask for. (:
