- OOC Rules
1. If an admin or mod asks you to do something, then do it. Think of us as like the Queens and Bronzes of the Weyr; we're not to be messed with. We'll be nice about it though, if you are too.
2. Post in third person. Not second, not first. I know I personally don't mind first-person, but I know that a lot of people do so, therefore, I shall not allow it here. You can, however, write your character histories in first person. Just no IC posting.
3. Be literate, ie. Good spelling and grammar (there's a spell checker if you're having trouble). We have no set word limit, but as long as your posts are of a consistently good length, museless episodes will be excused. I'd say that 150-200 words is a good minimum to work by.
4. Please keep cussing to a minimum. If you really must then can you try to use a Pernese curse, keeping in theme and all, and it won't get us in trouble with parents if we get any younger members ;) (ie. shards, shells, Jays, by the egg, by Faranth, by the egg of Faranth, through 'Fall, fog and fire, etc.)
5. If you've never RPed Pern before, then great! However, a basic understanding of the system is required. Wikipedia is a good place, and there are several other good sites especially on Pern. As we're uncannon, some of it may not apply, so feel free to ask if you're unsure, and I'll do my best to explain out uncannon-y bits ;)
- IC Rules
1. No God-modding, at all. It's a serious offense. If you're not sure what it is, ask, or Google it.
2. No Power-Playing, at all. This includes PC characters and NPC characters under someone else's control. If they brought them into the Thread, do not assume that you can control them too, unless they tell you you can. This is also classed as a serious offence. I hadn't though that it would need saying, but apparently it does.
3. No Mary-Sues or Gary-Lues. They're unimaginative, and boring to play with. Spice it up a little, or go write a fanfic. Even gold- and bronze-riders aren't perfect. They're not welcome here.
4. If you would like to delete a character, PM me. It's quite acceptable to say that you're just bored with a character, or you made him and can't get on with him (I know I've done it before). The only problem is if your character has a role in the Weyr/Hold, or if they've been heavily involved with the plot and, if so, then we'll talk about it. Also, please consider whether you would mind someone adopting your character before you decide for definite to kill them. You may also demote them to NPC status of you wish to be free of them, but don't want to delete them outright (see below). If they're Weyrlings, however, it's probably more cannon to kill them in training.
5. Inter-character plots are fine, even encouraged, but if it's something that's likely to upset the whole Weyr please ask an admin about it first.
6. All characters must be approved before they can be played. This will usually not take more than a day or two, if your charra's acceptable. If not, then you will be asked to change something before I will accept it. You can talk as much as you like OOC, of course, in the meantime.
7. Only have as many characters as you can handle. A maximum of two dragon candidates at a time, please.
8. To reduce the possibility of Queenhunters, I ask that you only have one gold-calibre female candidate at a time. This means either only make one of your girls heterosexual, or make one with no leadership capabilities at all. Remember, greens are just as fun to play as golds, if not more so.
9. You may only bring in a certain number of fire lizards. No bronzes of golds can be brought in, as these will only be given out at hatchings. You may bring in one brown and this will be your only flitter. You may however, have up to two greens, or a green and a blue, on creation of your character (ie. 1xBrown OR 1xBlue+1xGreen OR 2xGreen). Whether you choose to Impress both greens/blue and green to the same character or to two seperate characters is up to you.
10. Candidates must fall within the age boundaries set for their gender. These are currently 12-22 for males, 14-25 for females. When you've earned enough marks you may buy the right at a chance of Impression to a character outside these boundaries, but not until then.
11. You may only make up to 3 characters until the admins decide that you're active enough to warrant more. This will usually mean that you post regularly and have been in at least 10 IC threads with at least 5 posts in each. That's 50 IC posts. Once you reach that you may apply by PM to Spiffy to create another character.
- NPC Characters
1. NPCs are Non-Playable Characters, and are usually used as plot devices to fill needed space where no other character is available. However, since some regularly pop up in posts, or are actually important to the plot, I will include them in the character lists. They can be family members of one of your characters, drudges, that random healer who seems to treat all your characters various wounds, anyone. They can be temporary (as in a dragonpair that you used in a particular flight) or used regularly (the drudge who fetches your character their klah every morning, because they're too lazy to fetch it themselves). You can ever trial a character you have in mind by playing them NPC first, then making them into a full character once you know you like them.
2. NPCs can be used by anyone. View them more as property of the Weyr than of any one member, though I suggest that you ask permission from the person that 'created' them in the first place before you start using them whilly-nilly. Though, if you get that possessive about your NPC, I suggest that you make them into a full character anyway. A free-for-all NPC will be tagged as so, which means that the creator doesn't mind you using them without prior permission.
3. To make an NPC official, you should provide a basic sketch-up of their personality/appearance and name. This need be no more than a couple of words, just so that another can pick them up and play them easily. This can be done here.
4. Unlike a full character, you are under no obligation to keep an NPC active. They are simply there so that others know they exist and can interact with them. However, this does not means that you can create hundreds of them and flood the Weyr. Because of this, I will say that you can only make up to three NPC initially. Once I'm happy that you use them responsibly I may allow you to create more.
5. Keep in mind the types of characters available for creation. It says that there are only three bronzes in the Weyr right now, so don't go and create a bronzerider NPC. It's common sense.
6. NPC should only appear in a post with a full character already in it, the only exception here being during a greenflight. This means that you can't write a whole post using just an NPC. Use them like polyfiller: they fill in the gaps that your normal characters can't.
7. This is on trial. If people abuse the NPCs I shall freeze them and you shall not be able to create or use them any more.
- Flights/Runs and Hatchings
1. Flights/runs of all non-clutchers will be posted in the side bar, with an extra notification when they begin. If you want your non-clutcher to fly/run, contact me and I'll put it up, though it's up to you to start the thread. You may only fly your non-clutcher once every two months. Clutchers will be basically told when they can fly/run, every IC year. All flights/runs are to be held seperately, to avoid conflict.
2. Winners don't have to be entirely random, but keep some semblance of fairness. If you own the clutcher that is flying, you may choose the winner, but you must contact an admin for approval before posting the winner. Also, try not to start out the flight with a clear idea of who is to be winner, to keep things fair for the other competitors.
3. You don't get to pick which ranks hatch, or who they Impress to, even if you play the mother/father of the clutch. The admins will decide that. You may, however, be allowed to create certain colour dragonets for pre-decided candidates.
4. Hatchlings will be matched to candidates based on personality, strengths and weaknesses, and also (in the case of the rankers) how active you are. Sexuality is inconsequential, except in the case of queen Impressions; just because your character is steadfastly heterosexual doesn't means he can't Impress green. We do take your preferances into consideration, but that doesn't neccessarily mean that you'll always get what you want.
5. Do not try to force an Impression, even if you really really want that dragonet for your character. Unless you want your character shredded, of course ;] Although keep in mind a confident candidate is more likely to attract a dragonet.
6. Don't complain about our choices for your characters in the CBox or elsewhere. Be polite about it, and if you really have a problem PM me about it. I'm flexible.
7. Any dragonets who go inactive without notice for a period of several weeks will either be killed off as part of Weyrling training, or the dragonet will be adopted out to another player's (newly created for the purpose) character. Make sure to post in the Absences board if you do not wish to loose your dragonet, and to catch up on any missed lesson threads.
